Where have I got all my business experience from?
In my twenties I ran pubs and restaurants and experienced turning them round from quiet pubs to busy, lively places people wanted to come to, enjoy the atmosphere, eat, drink and be seen in.
At 23, I had my first pub, The Canonbury Tavern in Islington, London. When we first arrived, the pub was only taking £1500 a week and within 9 months we turned it round to take £15,000 a week, that’s £780,000 a year. Happy days! It was so satisfying to create a successful enterprise, I was hooked!
After two years we earned a huge bonus so took a year out and travelled round the world. I love learning about different cultures, following my passions, people and food!
We came back to the UK and secured a bigger pub with a 50 seater restaurant, a function room for events, where we catered for weddings and live music, doubling the turnover in the first year to £1.2 million pounds . That was alot of hard work but very rewarding. They had my twenties!!!
Life had to change and I moved to London by myself and after being a Sales Manager for the UK’s No. 1 frozen food supplier for a couple of years, I joined the world of recruitment. I was a successful Permanent Consultant in Central London and then was promoted to Manager of the Docklands office with Kelly Services.
I absolutely love working with people to find them their right path, to help them make decisions, move on and be happier.
Then one day I knew I had to make another big move myself. I was 35 and really wanted my own recruitment business so I made that big step and left the corporate world to set up my recruitment agency, Amber Associates so I could provide a better service to candidates and clients. Over 15 years, I have helped thousands of people get fantastic careers they wanted and companies get the right staff who have stayed with them for years and years. I’ve worked with some fantastic clients in Medical Health, Training, IT and Media.
