Good Morning
It’s March, Spring is here, the daffodils are out, I can see colour again Time to shake off the grey. Life feels so much better seeing flowers and blue skies I think! A few good walks in the sun this week have made such a difference to my mood. I ‘should’ have gone to the gym more I suppose to get those all important feel good hormones!
But saying I should go to the gym just isn’t motivating , it seems to be THE best, most effective avoidance tactic! In fact, we are more drawn to what we shouldn’t do!!
Language is powerful and it can help us or hinder us. So we need to talk to ourselves in a helpful and more motivating way to get things done.
How often during the day, do you say ‘I should’ do something, but don’t do it?
In all my years of helping women in business I have only met two women who actually do what they ‘should do’ when they say it! Only two! But so many of us say it, do you?
I wonder how much fitter, richer or happier we would all be if we just changed those words I should and instead said I can, I will, or I’m going to do it, now!
So, the question is NOT what should you be doing now?
But,
instead ask,
What can you do and when will you do it?
I like to start off with I can do
Then I decide a time for when ‘I’m going’ to do it.
If there are things that keep getting left undone, I realise I need to break down the goal even more or ask for help.
Your Action Point today is to:
Notice what you haven’t done, yet. What are you saying ‘I should’ to?
Replace your ‘I shoulds’ with ‘I can’, ’I will’ , ’I want to’ or ’I’m going to’ and feel how much more motivated you feel.
Which ‘motivational word’ is more powerful for you?
Tell me what motivational word works best for you. Please go and write a comment here on my blog, I’d love to hear what a difference this has made to your day. And your results
To your success and happiness, you can do it, let’s go!
See you soon,
Jo James xx
